Gold-toed shoes!
Glass-bead-encrusted
gowns! The fabulous
world of couture is
back with a bang, says
Jane McFarland, with
the clothes once again
stealing the show
(sorry Kanye)
darling!
Dior
If you’re looking for the perfect
suit, then look no further than
Dior, where the emphasis was
firmly on the brand’s savoir faire,
from immaculate tailoring to
hand-embroidered, Bowie-
inspired bodysuits. Creative
director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s
knack of delivering a cult
accessory remains untouchable
— Dior kick-started a trend for
heavily embellished party tights
that was then repeated at other
shows across the week, worn,
at Dior, with embellished
square-toe Mary Jane flats. (See
also the superchic hold-ups
worn with Valentino’s
minidresses and Fendi’s gothic
tights.) Chiuri’s continuing
support of craft and art was, this
season, a celebration of India;
the show space, in the gardens
of the Musée Rodin, was draped
in highly graphic embroidered
tapestries created by the artists
Madhvi and Manu Parekh.
They were handmade by the
Chanakya School of Craft in
India, which Chiuri has worked
with for decades and which
educates women in skills such as
embroidery. Those watching the
show included Cara Delevingne,
Maye Musk and Rosamund Pike
(making a strong case for the
Annie Hall tie), who nodded
along approvingly.
