WHAT’S NEW IN... SYDNEY

BRIDGE THE GAP
Until now climbing the
Sydney Harbour Bridge was
a case of getting to the top,
having your photo taken,
then trudging all the way
down again. However
BridgeClimb has recently
added an experience aimed
at the completists: the
Ultimate climb takes intrepid
harbour-hikers all the way
across the bridge, clipped
on with a safety harness. Half
the trip is along the lower
arch, and the other half along
the upper. And, even though
this trip is more about the
journey, there are still the
same dazzling views.

NAVIGATE THE NORTH SHORE
The whole world knows that
urban Sydney is beautiful.
But the regular pockets of
bushland and natural beauty
found across the city come
as a continual, welcome
surprise. This is the focus of
EcoWalk Tours’ new guided
walks along the North Shore
of Sydney Harbour. There are

several routes, packing
in gullies with little
waterfalls, cute cove
beaches and clifftop
lookouts. The classic route
around Bradleys Head may
proffer ringtail possums,
water dragons and rainbow
lorikeets. You can forget
you’re in a city until you see
yachts gliding in front of the
sharp skyscrapers.

LOW FOOD MILES
Resembling an enormous
greenhouse, Acre Artarmon
takes the whole “eat local”

trend to its logical
conclusion. This
bakery/restaurant/
café serves up
what it grows
on-site in the sprawling
gardens, hydroponic stations
and herb beds; just don’t
think too hard about what
might happen to the
chickens that strut around
outside. Acre Artarmon is
as much about education
as eating; it runs a series
of cookery classes, including
one on how to make the
perfect sausage roll.
