2. Al-Qur’ān : the Everlasting Miracle

TheQur'ānisamulti-dimensionalmiracle:itisamiracleofArabic lan-
guageandstyle;itisamiracleofprophecies;itisamiracleofscientific
revelations;itisamiracleofthebestcodeoflife.Notonlyamiracle,itis
amiracle-performer:itcausedthetransformationofanextremelyignor-
antandunletteredpeopleintotheguardiansofknowledgeandlearning.
This has also been realized by non-Muslim scholars.


Hartwing Hirschfeld writes, "We must not be surprised to find the
Qur'ānthefountainheadofscience.Everysubjectconnectedwithheaven
or earth, human life, commerce and various trades is occasionally
touchedupon,andthisgaverisetotheproductionofnumerousmono-
graphsformingcommentariesonpartsoftheHolyBook.Inthisway,the
Qur'ānwasresponsibleforgreatdiscussions,andtoitwasindirectlydue
the marvelous development of all branches of science in the Muslim
world...ThisagainnotonlyaffectedtheArabsbutalsoinducedJewish
philosophers to treat metaphysical and religious questions after the
Arabs'methods. Finally, the way in whichChristian scholasticism was
fertilisedbyArabiantheosophy neednot befurtherdiscussed... Inthe
samemanner,theQur'āngaveanimpetustomedicalstudiesandrecom-
mended the contemplation and study of nature in general."[6]


Such contributionsare quite apartfrom the religious subjectswhich
wereinitiatedbecauseof theQur'ān:thedevelopmentofliterature,the
codificationofgrammarandotherrelatedsubjectswhichwerefounded
becauseoftheQur'ān.Infact,allIslamicsubjects,allsubjectsconnected
withArabicliteratureandallsubjectsrelatedtophilosophyandtheology
came to the Arabs through the Qur'ān.
