5. Final Days & Death
During one of the hajj rituals, the Imam gave a speech exholting the
rightsofhisfamilyandhimself.ThiswasreportedtoHishāmwhowas
alsoinMeccaatthattime.OnhisreturntoSyria,HishāmorderedImam
Muhammadal-Bāqir(a.s.)andhisson,Ja‘far,tobebroughttoDamascus.
HishāmtriedtointimidateandhumiliatetheImambutdidnotsucceed.
Aftersometime,hewasforcedtolettheholyImamgobacktoMedina
wherehewasalways under surveillance bytheregime’s spiesand in-
formers. Finally, in the year 114 A.H., the Imam was poisoned bythe
Umayyadagentsanddiedon7thDhu’l-Hijja,andwasburiedbesidehis
father in the Jannatu ’l-Baqi‘ graveyard.
