Red and Yellow Soils:
- These soils have been formed by the decomposition of granite (igneous rock)
and gneiss (metamorphic rock). - They are zonal soils
-. - These soils are rather sandy and of red-yellow colour. They are red because of
the presence of iron oxide in them. But they look yellow in hydrated from. Often
their upper layer is red and the lower layer is yellow. - These soils lack in nitrogen, phosphorous and humus.
- These soils are found mainly in the peninsular India. They cover almost whole of
Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. - They are also found in Santhal Paragana and the Chotanagpur plateau to
Jharkhand. - Mainly coarse grains, pulses and oilseeds are cultivated in these soils.
