Categories of Endurance
Ethicists define certain categories of endurance:
- Enduranceagainstevildoing, caprices,lusts,andeveryactthatmay
mar man’s dignity and value - Enduranceofcatastrophesthroughtoleratingthemisfortunes,pains,
the missed interests, and the worldly benefits - Endurance inthe situations ofdanger andhorror,especiallyinde-
fending the right and the honor - Relinquishmenttoadversitiesandslowdowninresistingthem,using
all of the legal means
Subjectiontopovertyandrest,aswellasexpectingthemattersofearn-
ings,isnotincludedwithendurance.Itisobligatoryuponeverybodyto
exert all effortsfor obtaining good livelihood. Unemployment is illicit
sinceitisasortofignorance andsloth andanentrancetosinning and
vices.
Atanyrate,Islamhascalledtoenduranceandconsidereditthemost
notablementalvirtuesandthemostbeneficialforbothindividualsand
societies.Itissaidthatthemostdignifiedandelevatedpeoplearethose
whomaredescribedofendurance,steadfastness,andtenacityinhazard-
ousandmenacing situations.Thosepeoplefacethecalamitieswithfull
preparations and means to be saved against difficulties and inutilities.
