1.4 Engineering Disciplines

Now that you have a general sense of what engineers do, you may be wondering about the var-

ious branches or specialties in engineering. Good places to learn more about areas of special-

ization in engineering are the Web sites of various engineering organizations. We will explain

in Chapter 2 that as you spend a little time reading about these organizations, you will discover

many share common interests and provide some overlapping services that could be used by

engineers of various disciplines. Following is a list of a few Web sites that you may find useful

when searching for information about various engineering disciplines.
