Problems 651

19.5. For Problem 19.1, calculate the probability distribu-
tion and plot the probability-distribution curve.
19.6. In order to improve the production time, the super-
visor of assembly lines in a manufacturing setting of
cellular phones has studied the time that it takes to
assemble certain parts of a phone at various stations.
She measures the time that it takes to assemble a
specific part by 165 people at different shifts and on
different days. The record of her study is organized and
shown in the accompanying table.

19.10. The next time you make a trip to a supermarket ask
the manager if you can measure the mass of at least
10 cereal boxes of your choice. Choose the same brand
and the same size boxes. Tell the manager this is an
assignment for a class. Report the average mass, vari-
ance, and standard deviation for the cereal boxes. Does
the manufacturer’s information noted on the box fall
within your measurement?
19.11. Repeat Problem 19.10 using three other products, such
as cans of soup, tuna, or peanuts.
19.12. Obtain the height, age, and mass of players for your
favorite professional basketball team. Determine the
average, variance, and standard deviation for the height,
age, and mass. Discuss your findings. If you do not like
basketball, perform the experiment using data from a
soccer team, football team, or a sports team of your
choice.
19.13. For Example 19.4, determine the probability that it
will take a person between 5 and 10 minutes to
assemble the computer parts.
19.14. For Example 19.4, determine the probability that it
will take a person longer than 7 minutes to assemble
the computer parts.
19.15. For Problem 19.6 (assuming normal distribution),
determine the probability that it will take a person
between 5 to 8 minutes to assemble the phone.

tion and plot the probability-distribution curve.
