Part VII: Appendixes

Themes are shared by all the Office applications, so you can have a corporate theme that is applied
to Access forms and reports, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets.
One particularly useful new feature in Access 2010 is the set of application parts (similar to form
templates) that can be added to an application (see Figure B.11). Application parts are pre-built
forms and other application objects that come complete with the controls and embedded macros
necessary to support common application requirements. For example, the Message Box application
part is a complete Yes/No/Cancel-style message box, while the Dialog application part is a custom-
izable dialog box that is easily adapted to use wherever a dialog box is required by an application.
A powerful option on forms is the ability to embed macros within forms and controls. These are
traditional Access macros that become part of the form, report, or control object just like a form’s
module. Embedded macros are somewhat limited in their functionality but are trusted by the new
security features of Access.
Also added is a calendar date picker for all date/time formats. The date picker is activated through
a simple control property; its appearance may be turned on or off through VBA code or a macro.
