Priority for assignment to a single room should be given to teachers with a
full teaching program. Teachers with a reduced number of classes should
then be fit into the remaining slots.
Most contracts specify that classes have to be rotated. For example,
let’s say there are six senior classes. Four teachers request senior classes.
The school leader tries not to give teachers singleton preps (except in the
case of honors, advanced placement, or elective classes), so only three
teachers could be assigned senior classes. The teacher who most recently
taught seniors would be excluded. School leaders must always keep cop-
ies of past programs for reference.
As you might expect, honors, advanced placement, and elective classes
are popular. The school leader tries to avoid getting into preparation and
rotation issues by indicating up front that such classes are singletons and
