Actionsofanytypewillalwaysleadtosomeresult.However,thisresultisnotaspredictableas
peoplehavecometobelieve.Inreality,theonlythingahumanbeingcancontrolistheactionitself,
andnotthefruitsoftheaction.Ifthereisconcentrationontheactionwithoutdesireorexpectationof
thefruitsoftheaction,thentherecanbepeaceandcontentmentevenwhiletheactionisbeingper-
formed.Thisisthewayofthenon-doer.Actionsperformedwithexpectationsanddesirearetheway
ofthedoer.Thenon-doerisfreefromthefruitsbecauseheorsheisfreefromdesiresandexpecta-
tionswhilethedoerisdependentontheactionsandisboundtotheresults,betheypositiveornegat-
ive.Whendesiresandexpectationinthemindareresolved,themindbecomescalmandpeaceful.
Undertheseconditions,thenon-doerisfreefromelationordepressionbecausehisorherpleasureis
comingfromthepresentactioninthepresentmoment,promotingconcentrationofmindandexpan-
sioninconsciousness.Theactionsarenolongerbasedonmemoriesofthepastofpleasurablesitu-
ations,whichareimpellingamovementtorepeatthoseactivities,oronexpectationsforfutureactiv-
itieswhichwillsomehowbringhappiness.Thenon-doer,notbeingboundtothememoriesortothe
expectationsisnotboundbyeitherthepastorthefuture,andtherebydiscoversaneternalpresent.
Thedoerisalwayscaughtupinthepastorthepresentandtherebylosestheopportunitytodiscover
peaceandtruehappiness.Thisistheconditionofmostpeopleintheworld.Beforetheyrealizeit
theirentirelifehasgonebywithouttheirbeingawareofthepassageoftime.Theartoftruespiritual
lifeleadsonetodetachfromtheworldevenwhilecontinuingtoliveinitandtherebytodiscoverthe
hiddeninnerspiritualdimensionsoftheunconsciousmindandwhatliesbeyond.Thedoerisalways
boundtoaformofexperiencewhichisdeterminedbyandboundtotheworldoftimeandspace,be-
causeonlyintimeandspacecantheremanifestthememoriesofthepastandtheexpectationsforthe
future.Thenon-doereventuallydiscoversatranscendentalexperienceofexpandingconsciousnessin
the present moment.
Thephilosophyofmeditationmayseemforeigntoyouatfirstbutifyoureflectuponityouwilldis-
coverthatitholdsgreattruthaswellasgreatpotentialtoassistyouindiscoveringabidingpeaceand
harmonyinyourlife.Whenyoubegintopracticeanddiscoverhowwonderfulitistobeincontrolof
yourmindinsteadofbeingpreytothepositiveornegativeemotionsanddesires,youwilldiscoveran
incomparablefeeling,whichgoesbeyondtheordinaryconceptofhappiness.Aswithotherhuman
endeavors,inordertogainsuccessyouneedtostudythephilosophyintensivelywithgreatconcentra-
tion,andthenpracticeitinyourdaytodaylife.Treatitasanexperiment.Theworldandyourlife
willnotgoaway.Justaskyourself:WhatwouldhappenifIweretobecomelessattachedandmorein
controlofmymind?Followtheteachingsanddiscovertheinnerresourcesyouneedtodiscovertrue
happiness and to overcome the obstacles of life.
Thepracticeofmeditationrequiresregularandsustainedpractice.Failureisassuredifthereisnoef-
fort.Likewise,successisassuredifthereissustained,regulareffort.Thisisthekeytoaccomplishing
anygoalinlifeand,enlightenment,isagoallikeanyother,albeitthehighestgoal.Withrespecttoat-
tainingthegoalofenlightenment,allothergoalsarelikedustblowinginthewind.Thefollowingin-
