Traditionalwesternmedicine’sattempttocountertheincreasedpropensityforbloodclotformation
inwesterners,insteadofrecommendingbringingtheOmega-3:Omega-6ratiosbackintobalanceand
changingone’sdiettoalowfat,wholefoodsvegetarian,veganorrawfooddiet,andone’slifestyle
todecreasestress,cameintheformofarecommendationthatseemedtoindicatethatjustabout
everyoneinwesternsocietyshouldtakeaspirindaily.Thisrecommendationwasbasedonastudy,
fundedinpartbyoneofthecompaniesthatmakeaspirin,whichrevealedthattakingaspirincanre-
ducetheincidenceofheartattacks.Aspirinworksbyinterferingwithbloodclotformation,sothe
mechanismbywhichaspirindecreasestheincidenceofheartattacksisbykeepingthebloodfrom
clottingsoitcanflowfreelythroughthearteries.Thisisespeciallyimportantifthepersonhasathero-
sclerosis,wherebythevesselsarepartiallyoccludedbyplaquebuildupalongthewalls.Thenitbe-
comesimperativetokeepthebloodasclotfreeaspossible,becauseitwouldtakeonlyasmallclotto
becomestuckinthenarrowedvesselsandcauseaheartattack,iftheclotblocksoneoftheheartar-
teries,orastroke,iftheclotsblocksonethearteriesinthebrain.Thus,strokeisalsoreferredas
“brainattack”bythemedicalestablishment.However,whiletakingaspirindiddecreasetheincid-
enceofheartattacksinthesubjectstested,whatwasnotrevealedtothemassmediaaboutthesub-
jectsofthisstudywasalsoequallyimportant.Sinceaspirinpreventsthebloodfromclottingnor-
mally,italsoincreasedtheincidenceofhemorrhagicstrokes(bleedingintothebrain),gastrointestinal
bleeding from ulcers, and sudden cardiac death in the test subjects.
Onemajorreasonthattheincidenceofsuddencardiacdeathwasnothelpedbytakingaspirinisthat
aspirindoesnotaffectthebasicfactorswhichcontributetoheartattackssuchasthebuildupofcho-
lesterolplaquesandotherdepositsinthearteries,whichareforthemostpartdietrelated,or/and
spasmsinthearteries,mostlikelyduetostressfulstimuliandthereleaseofthestresshormones.
Also,thisideaoftakingaspirinleadsmanypeopletodeveloptheerroneousassumptionthataslong
astheytakeaspirinregularly,theyaredoingsomethingbeneficialfortheirheart,sotheydonothave
tochangetheirdietorlifestyle.Naturehasalreadycreatedseveralbuiltinmechanismsbywhich
one’sbloodcanbefreeofbloodclots,yetmaintainitsabilitytoclotwhenneeded,suchasthrough
theregulationoftheOmega-3andOmega-6fattyacidsinthebody,whentheyarepresentinhigh
quality and in their proper ratios.
