sourceoflightisneeded;likebegetslike.Likewise,toblendwiththeeternallight,onemustbelight,
physically, mentally (mental purity) and spiritually.
ThisaspectofconsumingfoodwiththesenseofunitingwiththeDivinewhoisbeingrepresentedby
thefoodisknownastheEucharist.Ascanbeseenfromthepreviousdiscussion,thisteachingwasin-
herentinKemeticspiritualitylongbeforeitspracticeinChristianity.Itisstillevidentonthereliefs
onvarioustemplewallsinEgypttodaywhereinitiates,priestsandpriestesses,andkingsandqueens
areseenofferinga“HetepSlab”totheDivineimage.TheHetepSlab,picturedbelow,issymbolicof
theexperienceofattainingonenesswiththeDivine.Itconsistsofadepictionofanofferingmatwith
aloafofbread,aswellasagoose,athighofanox,andtwovesselsfilledwithanofferingfluid.The
wordHeteporHotepmeans“Peace,”notjusttheordinarypeacethatpeopleoftenrefertomeaning
thattheyareawayfromthehustleandbustleoftheworld,butabiding,perpetualpeacethatonly
comeswiththeattainmentofSemaTawi.ThehieroglyphicsymbolthatmeansHetepistheoffering
mat with a loaf of bread.
Peoplesometimesmisunderstandandbelievethatthesesymbolsaretobetakentomeanthatthe
scripturesaresupportingtheeatingofmeatormakingofferingsofanimalflesh.However,thisas-
sessmentisincorrect.Rather,thebreadissymbolicofAsar,inthatitismadefromthewheatthat
growsoutofhisbody.Thegooseisanabbreviationforthehieroglyphictextthatmeansfemale,and
thethighoftheoxanabbreviationforthewordmale.IntheritualrelatedtoofferingtheHetepSlab
totheDivine,fluidinlibationvesselsispouredoverthesymbolsofmale(oxthigh)andfemale
(goose).Thefluidthenflowsoverandaroundthem,andthenrunsdownandoutacommonopening.
Thisritualissymbolicofunitingtheopposites(maleandfemale)withinone’sconsciousness,thatis,
offeringeveryaspectofoneselftotheDivineinthestateofEnlightenment.Therefore,theimplica-
tionoftheofferingofbreadonamat,intheformoftheHetepSlabisthatHetep,theSupremePeace
ofEnlightenment,comesfromattainingunionwiththeDivine.Also,thelibationvessels,inaddition
tobeingfilledwithwater,weresometimesfilledwithwineorbeer.However,again,thiswasnotto
advocatethedrinkingofalcohol.ThepouringoftheliquidfromthelibationvesselontotheHetep
Slabsymbolizestheflowingofone’sconsciousnessfromtheworldofdualitytotheoneSupreme
Self,liketworiversunitingandthenflowingintotheocean.Also,theuseoftheseitemsontheHetep
Slabthatareinfactprohibitedbythescripturesforhumanconsumptionhasanothermeaning.Itsym-
bolizesovercomingortranscendingtheloweranimalpassionssuchassexuality,andtheconsumption
of meat and alcohol.
