Engineering Design with SOLIDWORKS® 2016 Fundamentals of Drawing
The symbol “?” is displayed when the Balloon attachment is not
coincident with an edge or face. ASME Y14.2 defines the attachment
display as an arrowhead for Edge and a dot for Face.
Arrowhead display is located under Options,
Document Properties, Annotations or under
the Leaders tab in the Dimension
PropertyManager. Note: Edge/vertex
attachment is selected by default.
Each Balloon references a component with a
SOLIDWORKS File Name. The
SOLIDWORKS File Name is linked to the
Part Name in the Bill of Materials by default.
Customize both the Balloon text and the Bill
of Materials according to your company’s
requirements.
Bill of Materials
The Bill of Materials reflects the components of the GUIDE-ROD assembly. The Bill of
Materials is a table in the assembly drawing that contains Item Number, Quantity, Part
Number and Description by default. Insert additional columns to customize the Bill of
Materials.
Part Number and Description are Custom Properties entered in the individual part
documents. Insert additional Custom Properties to complete the Bill of Materials.

Click the Bill of Materials tool from the
Annotation tab. The Bill of Materials
PropertyManager is displayed.
Click the Open table template for Bill of
