Engineering Design with SOLIDWORKS® 2016 Fundamentals of Drawing
The center of mass of the model is displayed in the graphics window and in the
FeatureManager design tree just below the origin.
The position of the COM point updates when the model’s center of mass changes.
The COM point can be suppressed and unsuppressed for configurations.
You can measure distances and add reference dimensions between the COM point and
entities such as vertices, edges and faces.
If you want to display a reference point where the CG was located at some particular
point in the FeatureManager, you can insert a Center of Mass Reference Point. See
SOLIDWORKS Help for additional information.
Add a center of mass (COM) point to a drawing view. The center of mass is a selectable
entity in drawings and you can reference it to create dimensions.
In a drawing document, click Insert, Model Items. The Model Items PropertyManager is
displayed. Under Reference Geometry, click the Center of Mass icon. Enter any needed
additional information. Click OK from the Model Items PropertyManager. View the
results in the drawing.
The part or assembly needs to have a COM before you can view the COM in the
drawing. To view the center of mass in a drawing, click View, Hide/Show, Center of
mass.
