Unproven Uses: The essential oil is used internally for
catarrhal conditions of the respiratory tract. Externally, it is
used for catarrhal conditions of the respiratory tract, rheu-
matic and neuralgic pain, and tension states.

SPRUCE SHOOTS (FRESH)

  • Cough/bronchitis

  • Fevers and colds

  • Inflammation of the mouth and pharynx

  • Muscular and nerve pains

  • Tendency to infection


Unproven Uses: The drug is used internally as a respiratory-
tract catarrh and externally for muscle pains and neuralgia.
In folk medicine, it is used internally for tuberculosis and
externally as a bath additive for patients with neurological
illnesses, - „

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Contraindications include bronchial asthma and whooping
cough. Patients with extensive skin injuries, acute skin
diseases, feverish or infectious diseases, cardiac insufficien-
cy or hypertonia should not use the drug as a bath additive.

PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS
No health hazards or side effects are known in conjunction
with the proper administration of designated therapeutic
dosages, although bronchial spasms could be worsened.

DOSAGE
SPRUCE NEEDLE OIL
Mode of Administration: Embrocations of alcohol solutions,
ointments, gels, emulsions and oils are available, as well as
bath additives and inhalants.

Daily Dosage:
Infusion — Place 4 drops of oil on a lump of sugar or in a
little water and take 3 times a day.

Inhalation — Add 2 gm of oil to hot water and inhale several
times a day.

External application — A 20 to 30% ointment is rubbed onto
the affected area several times a day.

Bath additive — Add 5 gm oil to a full bath at a temperature
of 35 to 38° C.


Storage: Store in a cool place, in a tightly sealed container,
protected from light.


SPRUCE SHOOTS (FRESH)
Mode of Administration: In galenic preparations for internal
and external application.

Preparation: For inhalation therapy, place 2 gm of oil in hot
water and inhale the vapors. To make a bath additive, boil
200 to 300 gm drug in 1 liter water and strain after 5
minutes; add to a full bath. Make sure it is possible to relax
after the bath.

Daily Dosage: For internal use: 5 to 6 gm of drug is
administered per day.

Four drops of the essential oil may be placediiv a little water
or on a lump of sugar and taken 3 times a day.

The inhalation therapy mentioned in the Preparation section
can be used several times a day.
