CALENDULA
Source: Calendula officinalis L. (Family
Compositae or Asteraceae).
Common/vernacular names:Calendula, gold-
bloom, holligold, marigold, Marybud, pot
marigold.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Hairy annual to perennial (absent freezing),
20–50 cm high; leaves oblanceolate to oblong,
7–171–4 cm; flowers yellow or orange;
4–7 cm in diameter; widely cultivated orna-
mental in Europe and North America; natu-
ralized in south and west Europe; origin
undetermined. Parts used are the flower and
herb; not to be confused withTagetesspecies,
also commonly known as marigolds (FOSTER).
