COMMERCIAL PREPARATIONS


Dried crude in peeled (e.g., Jamaican), rough-
peeled (e.g., Cochin), and unpeeled (e.g., Ni-
gerian) forms; extracts; oils; and oleoresin.
Strengths (seeglossary) of extracts are ex-
pressed either in weight-to-weight ratios or in
flavor intensities. Crude, fluid extract, and


oleoresin were formerly official in N. F.; oil
is official in F.C.C.

Regulatory Status. GRAS (§182.10 and
§182.20). Subject of a German therapeutic
monograph; allowed for dyspeptic
complaints and prevention of motion
sickness.^73
