Open Sky – Studio for Virtual Typography
Horizons is a series of limited-edition prints. A layer of
transitional type hovers above a photographic image of
architectural structures. The type is more or less legible
depending on the viewing angle. The plastic lens that is
mounted on to the large-format print allows for the type
to virtually fall apart as the viewer moves around the image.
The text of each print in the series conveys philosophical
refl ections on contemporary urban life. The print shown
here is entitled Open Sky and contemplates the movement
of clouds in relation to the pace of modern life. This
example of printed media defi es the static nature of printed
information. It shows that unconventional technical means
can make it possible to introduce motion to print media.
