The system will give an auditory message to remind the technologist to change the
setting on the treadmill controller. The message will say:
“Change treadmill controller to Recovery Stage for current protocol.”
Press NEXT STAGE on the treadmill controller to get to Recovery for the current
protocol. Watch the markings on the controller carefully and do not go past the
desired setting. Press NEXT STAGE only once for this change.
If the SP’s heart rate goes above 100% at any time during the exam press Go to Recovery on
the ISIS screen and change the treadmill controller to the Recovery Stage of the current protocol. If the
%HR is above 100% when the data are captured near the end of Stages 1 or 2, a message will be
displayed :
“HR > 100% PMHR. Heart rate is not within acceptable limits. Go to Recovery.”
As noted above, press Go to Recovery on the ISIS screen and change the treadmill controller
to the Recovery Stage of the current protocol.
3.13 Procedure to Stop Treadmill Test Early
Technologists must be aware that not all SPs will be able to complete the treadmill test due
to various reasons. From a safety perspective, it is critical that all technologists be very attentive to SPs
regarding any signs/symptoms that may occur. There are two sets of stopping criteria and a different
procedure will be used for each.
3.13. 1 Priority 1 Stopping Criteria
Pain or pressure in the chest.
Pain in neck, jaw, or teeth.
Pain in the shoulder or between the shoulder blades.
Pain radiating down one or both arms.
Moderate/severe leg pain or cramping.
