194 Lubricant Additives: Chemistry and Applications
Another advantage of using boron nitride is the heat conductivity property of the material. For
applications that would require rapid heat dissipation, boron nitride serves quite well and is superior
to graphite in that regard. Thermal conductivity values of boron nitride powder will vary depending
on its quality. But, boron nitride in any of its grades is invariably more thermally conductive than
graphite or MoS 2. Applications such as high-performance cutting oils are claimed to deliver benefi ts
of enhanced lubrication and heat withdrawal when fi nely dispersed submicron particles of boron
nitride are incorporated into the fl uid [17].
