‘I had just wrapped
up an evening session
with Annie-May and her

Munsterlander, Inka. As they sat together
by the reservoir I could see a moment
unfolding between them. There is
something universal about the unspoken
bond between a girl and her dog. For this
reason I decided to shoot a silhouette

  • a faceless image that shows the
bond felt not only by Annie-May
and Inka but dog lovers across
    the globe. That warm feeling
that rises up when we reach
out and pat our dogs is one of
the best feelings in the world.’

‘I studied dog photography
at Nottingham Trent
University, and after I graduated
I returned to China to work as
a pet photographer full-time.
I really enjoy being with dogs,
and I thank them every day for
coming into my life. These
three Borzoi had recently been
abandoned, and a friend of mine
was taking care of them until a
new home could be found. When
I met them for the fi rst time they
stared at me, and when I got
my camera out they were
curious about what I was
doing. I will never forget
their lovely faces. Now
these lucky guys all
have new homes and
live with people who
really love them.’

since 2014. I always try to show
the soulful nature of dogs in my
work. Now I have two rescue dogs, Finn and Yuri.
This shot is of Finn and was taken during a holiday
in the Dolomites last year. Finn fi lls our life with so
much love – I have never met a dog with such
patience and calmness.’

ANNE’S TOP TIPS

1 Get involved with the dog. Don’t worry about
composition, settings, etc, just keep things simple.
2 Shoot at a dog’s eye-level: it makes the
exchange between dog and owner more apparent.
