Speed Up Your Mac

Twe a k yo u r D o c k s e t t i n g s

Macs are great for fancy special effects, but
disabling them can speed your Mac up...

Kill the zoom
Go to System
Preferences>Dock and
start off by unchecking the
‘Magnification’ option so you
can’t enlarge sections of the
Dock as you hover your
cursor over them.

Disable
animations
Also uncheck the ‘Animate
opening applications’
option and, if you want
to get really picky, the
‘Automatically hide and
show the Dock’ option too.

Scaleyour
windows
Setthe‘Minimizewindows
using:’optionto ‘Scaleeffect’.
Havingit setto Genieeffect

Reduce transparency
You can also speed up your Mac by
reducing the transparency of the Dock.
To do this, go to System Preferences>
Accessibility>Display and tick the
‘Reduce transparency’ option.

We have already looked at one
way of removing apps by using
your Mac’s built-in storage
optimising utility, but here we take
a look at another. Because just
deleting apps doesn’t remove all

of the data associated with them
on your hard drive, you will either
need to use the uninstaller for the
specific app you wish to remove or
grab a specialist app that does the
job for you.
