ANTILEUKOTRIENES

• Leukotrienes are potent bronchoconstrictors and
  inflammatory mediators. Antileukotrienes block this
  effect in one of two ways. Zileuton (Zyflo) blocks the
  synthesis of leukotrienes, while zafirlukast (Accolate)

and montelukast (Singulair) are leukotriene-receptor

antagonists that block the effects of leukotrienes after

they are formed. All three medications decrease

airway inflammation and offer a more rapid onset of

action than other anti-inflammatory medications.
