FOLLOW THE LEADER
Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait,
the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy
to execute your ideas.^44
- HEART & HEAD:
- The only true king is the king of hearts. Here is the greatest
calling for the executive, and the greatest challenge, too: to
master his own heart so as to inspire the hearts of others...^45
- ...how often it is that God makes alive our hearts by first
breaking them. He makes us wise by exposing the extent of our
propensity to folly...^46
- ...the heart is where leadership takes place; it is born there and
there it dies as well...^47
- ...it is not ability, not experience, not position that separates the
champions from the scoundrels; it is the heart that makes the
difference, then and now, the heart that distinguishes between
faithfulness and treachery, truth and façade, purpose and petty
opportunism. A great chasm lies between these descriptors; on
one side stand the eagles, while on the other side the vultures
circle...^48
- Leadership, like greatness, is born in the heart. David
was great for what he loved and for what he hated. It was his
heart that held him fast in times of trouble and his heart that
brought him triumph. This too is God’s great message through
David for every leader who seeks His approval: “Man looks at
the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”...^49
- Ours is a generation infatuated first with the mind, and then
with the working hands. Yet both the mind and the hands are
under full control of the heart...^50
- It is in the heart that every battle is won or lost, and so the
heart is always primary...^51
- ...wisdom is a marriage – a synergy – of heart and mind.^52
