FOLLOW THE LEADER
decision-making power needed to achieve the assigned responsibility.
Accountability is the obligation to perform the responsibility and
exercise authority in terms of established performance standards.^67
- LEGACY:
- In corporate management I was taught that the perpetuity of
the healthy organization is management’s first responsibility,
and so leadership development at all levels is of prime importance.
Successful succession is a leader’s responsibility and often a test of his
character.^68
- Failure to make provision for the succession of leadership has spelled
ruin for many missions and churches. Moses followed Jethro’s advice
and realized several benefits. He was able to concentrate on the biggest
problems. The latent talents of many around him were discovered.

the leader who is defined not by his or her own greatness, but by
the greatness of the followers. Not the leader who celebrates his own
abilities...but the leader who rejoices in the character and ability
being cultivated in the precious human lives entrusted to him...The
great military theorist and historian J.F.C. Fuller once wrote: ‘What
the leaders are, that, as a rule, will the men below them be.’^71
