LEADERS ARE PRAYERFUL
Let me conclude by saying that every attribute of leadership that we have
looked at in this book needs to be constantly bathed and nurtured
in prayer. It is only prayer that will lift these characteristics from the
human to the divine...from the natural to the supernatural...from the flesh to
the spirit...from self to Christ! Therefore, it is only prayer that will...
P Purify our purpose
P Make us truly prophetic
P Give us a people-focus rather than things
P Make our lives predictable through consistency
P Keep us positive and passionate in our pursuits
P Help us strive toward perfection in all we do
P Make us discerning and perceptive in the spirit
P Give us the wisdom to be problem-solvers God’s way
P Impart creativity for the promotion of God’s vision in our lives
P Motivate us to be a pace-setter who stays ahead through the Spirit
P Cause us to be precipitators who make things happen for the
Kingdom
P Teach us how to be good Biblical planners around God’s priorities
P Help us be practical and pragmatic in leading others
P Motivate us to be punctual and “on time” leaders
P Produce the needed balance of persistence and patience in our lives
P Cause us to be true partner-leaders who share responsibility with
others
P Give us the natural and supernatural power we need to lead for
God’s glory!
Since I began this chapter with a scriptural exhortation about prayer, I
want to end the same way. It is a “call to prayer” that the Apostle Paul
issued to the Ephesian Christians – and is just as timely for us today. It
was how he concluded his teaching to them about spiritual warfare, and
the necessity of their daily appropriation of the “...full armor of God”
(Eph. 6:10-17). In these verses, Paul not only exhorted them to saturate
every area of their lives in prayer, he also asked that they regularly pray
for him and his ministry. I would request those of you reading this book
to do the same for me.
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of
prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and
always keep on praying for all the saints.
