transformations. The screening for fish digestive lipases with
alkaline pH optima would allow the identification of suitable
enzymes for use in cleaners and household detergents.
Some fish digestive lipases are stereospecific as well as enan-
tiospecific and these features could allow the lipases to be used
in the synthesis of specialty pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals
where enantiomerically pure products are desired. Specialty es-
ters for personal care products and environmentally safe surfac-
tants for applications in detergents and as food emulsions may
also await the application of fish digestive lipases (Kurtovic et al.
2009).
