Meet our guests
How did you start stitching?
My teacher encouraged me to do
some cross stitching in junior school.
I made a dressing table cover on
green aida with red and white
stitches. It made me feel good about
myself that I could do it.
What was the last thing you
stitched as a gift for someone?
It was for my grandchildren, because
I wanted them to have something
special from Grandma. I stitched their
initials, K and E, using a seaside ABC
from an old issue of WOXS.
What has been your favourite
design recently in WOXS?
I’d like to stitch the Enchanting
Unicorn from issue 278. This looks
like a good project to follow.
What’s your proudest
stitching moment?
Some years ago I stitched
a Strawberries and Cream
sampler. It meant a lot to
me – I hadn’t stitched for a
long time and it was for a
new start in a new home.

Tell us about your latest
stitching project
I saw an advert in WOXS for a kit
called ‘Purrfect Love’ by Goldleaf
Needlework. I had to order it right
away as I love cats. I enjoyed it so
much. Now I’m looking for the
‘purrfect’ frame!
Who are your stitching pals?
I have recently moved and all of my
family and friends are long-distance.
But my cat, Rizzo, loves to snuggle up
next to me while I stitch.
What’s your top stitching tip?
The best stitching tip I received was
to use a Q Snap plastic frame instead
of a hoop to keep your stitches taut.
I have a couple of different sizes to
fit different sizes of project. Since
switching to Q Snaps, it has made a
big difference in keeping my stitches
clean and neat.
Is there a stitching technique
you’d like to master?
I’m a little intimidated, but would like
to give blackwork a go. I’ve seen so
many pretty designs using blackwork.

What has been your favourite
cross stitch project?
I made a series of cottages that
showed the different seasons and
I love how those turned out. I also
made the kids trick-or-treat bags
one Halloween, which they still use.
What’s your favourite style?
I tend to gravitate to florals or vintage
prints. I love anything that looks like
it was created in the 1800s – they
pop out to me. I love to recreate them
and display them, whether that’s in a
frame or as a cushion for the sofa.
What’s been your favourite
design from WOXS and why?
The unicorn from the March issue was
beautiful. The detail on the flowers
and how real he looks is
amazing. It will look great
on my daughter’s wall.
What do your
friends think of
your hobby?
They love that I can do
it, but say they wouldn’t
have the patience!
