FEVER DREAM
Of Monsters and Men
The Icelandic indie folk-pop band’s first
studio album since 2015’s Beneath the Skin
represents a pitch for a broader sound – and
with it, a broader audience – than that effort,
while also not completely eschewing the
five-piece’s earlier style.
FIVE FACTS:
- Of Monsters and Men was formed in 2010,
and currently consists of lead singer and
guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, singer
and guitarist Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson,
lead guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, drummer
Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson and bassist
Kristján Páll Kristjánsson. - That same year, the band won the
Músíktilraunir, which is an annual battle of
the bands competition in Iceland. - Nanna has described FEVER DREAM as
“more poppy and brighter” than Beneath
the Skin. - Having grown “really tired” of writing
songs on an acoustic guitar, she said that
she began working on a laptop at home,
“figuring out all these new sounds and
being curious about them”. - The album was co-produced by the band
with Rich Costey.
