Below street level the bridge
is colourful, a riot of orange,
red and blue, with large
bronze figures gazing out
over the water. It was here in
the mid-1800s that there were
charges of ‘indecent’ bathing
upsetting steamboat
passengers and where a
clown called Mr Barry set sail
in a washtub pulled by geese
all the way to Westminster
Bridge.
