east side is a list of names
including Aldermen, Sheriffs
elect, a solicitor, water bailiff
and common cryer,
presumably those who took
part in the 1842 ceremony
held by Lord Mayor Pirie
whose names were then
engraved on the stone. The
writing on the south side,
however, which faces the
oncoming tide, is too worn to
read.
