Swim in 1967 and 1968.
Cynthia Lockie (née Brooke),
who won the women’s race in
1950, brought her family
along to watch. ‘She told us
there used to be a big house
near the river and they would
open up their garden and
people got changed there,’
explains Ben. ‘It may have
belonged to Ernest Dunkels.
She was thrilled to see the
swim and she presented one
of the trophies.’
