Layering allows for a logical, easy transition from a simple to a complex routine.
As a result of these gradual changes exercise intensity is not compromised
Practical Application – Layering
Counts Move Lower Body Travel Direction
1-8 A double grapevine OTS face front
9-16 B 4 alt leg curl OTS L
17-24 C mambo cha cha cha, 4 marches fwd, bk face side
25-32 D double curl, single, single curl OTS face front
- A = stomp 1, hold 2, cross behind 3, cross front 5, rock bk 6, turn 7-8
- B = 1st 2 leg curls face back wall, 2nd 2 leg curls face front
- C = marches = rock bk, rev turn * teach facing fwd, layer to face side wall
- D = dbl curl = tuck behind, single curls turn in reverse
Considerations for Layering:
- The layers should be gradual and made one at a time
- After layering move A, go back and repeat the combination several times over. Once the participants
are confident with the last change, add the next layer and so on until the sequence has been
learned. - Other changes that can be layered include rhythm, direction, shapes, arm variations and sound
effects.
Summary –Not just one, but a number of teaching methods can be applied to develop the final product, as follows:
Add on—pyramid—layer—link—holding pattern
- Teaching methods can be used in each phase of the workout (warm up, cardio, strength and cool down)
- Each participant will benefit from the time you spend developing (building) your combinations.
- Practice will make each teaching method easier to use.
