Saphenous Nerve Block
Insertion 1 cm anterior
and 1 cm proximal to
medial malleolus
Long saphenous vein
Constriction by hand provides
venous occlusion
- These two nerves can be anesthetized by injecting a “ring” of local anesthetic solution in the
subcutaneous tissue. - Locate the upper aspect of the medial malleolus and inject a 10 ml ring of local anesthetic solution
while advancing the needle toward the medial border of the lateral malleolus.
