Twenty-Three (1828)
Non-Mormons attempting psychiatric analyses have been content to pin a
label upon [Joseph] and have ignored his greatest creative achievement
because they found it dull. Dull it is, in truth, but not formless, aimless, or
absurd. Its structure shows elaborate design, its narrative is spun coherently,
and it demonstrates throughout a unity of purpose.^3
The Purpose of the Book of Mormon
What early critics did not know, or even attempt to consider, was that advanced
humans were the ones who actually composed the Book of Mormon. These critics also did not
know that it would only take a small percentage of the world’s population (one per cent of
the people of the United States^4 ) to fulfill the purpose for which the book was intended. If
they would have read the book “with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in
Christ,” then they could have known “the truth of all things.”^5
The Book of Mormon exists to counter the Bible. There are far more critics of the Bible
than there are Book of Mormon critics; and their biblical historical-critical analyses are much
more convincing. If much of the Bible is based on myth created by mortals (and in many
material respects, the books and stories in it, are), then a great majority of the human race
has been deceived, including, as related above, some of the most intellectually and
politically powerful and elite of the world.
There is no doubt that the existence of the Bible has caused much human suffering
and misery. And, if there are advanced humans who are concerned about our state as
mortals and what we learn during mortality, then it is only logical that they would ensure
that there existed something that would enhance our education and counter the damage
that the Bible has done throughout the world. They would ensure that we could increase
our knowledge concerning these two books, and thereby provide a chance for us to act upon
this knowledge for our benefit or impediment, even if they had to create one book to
counter the other.
We Must Accept an Overseer as Our Supreme Ruler
Throughout this biography, we have discussed what many sincere people believe is
the purpose of our mortal existence—to experience “an opposition in all things.”^6 Although
this is an important purpose, it is not the only one. Another purpose (among others) is to
learn the importance of having an eternal government that is responsible for restricting
human free will and ensuring perfect equality in all things, forever.^7
As mentioned earlier, every solar system in the Universe is governed by ONE
human being only, whom many who accept the New Testament might refer to as their
“Christ” (anointed one).^8 A democracy where the majority rules, is NOT a righteous
(perfect) government because it can eliminate the rights and equality of the minority. The
perfect government is a dictatorship, where one person is educated and empowered
sufficiently to ensure that everyone’s free will is protected against everyone else’s. This is
the role of a Christ, the only human being capable of perfect dictatorship.
While Moroni promises in the last pages of the Book of Mormon that the reader may
know the truth of the book, if it is read “with a sincere heart, [and] with real intent,”^9 this is
followed by one other superlative—that one will never accept anything about the Book of
Mormon unless one has “faith in Christ” (accepts Christ). When one accepts the idea that
