Errors in the Book of Mormon Do Not Undermine its Message and Purpose
Critics point out the grammatical and spelling errors associated with the first
1830 edition of the book. These were not Joseph’s mistakes, but those of his scribes. A
complete and thorough analysis of its original grammatical errors will prove the
consistency of each scribe’s weakness.
In the four years that Joseph was taught by the Brothers and the advanced beings
who were responsible for the Book of Mormon, Joseph did not learn English grammar or
penmanship. He was a terrible writer. For this reason, he had scribes upon whom he
depended to write what came through the Urim and Thummim. Like he did all of his
revelations, Joseph spoke and his scribes made notes. When Joseph reviewed what his
scribes had written, he often overlooked many errors that might have been obvious to
others because of his inept grammatical learning.
The Final Lesson for Mortals
Advanced beings did not need Joseph Smith to produce the Book of Mormon. They
could have done it themselves and created a perfect English-based text. But if they wanted
that, then why not just appear to all the inhabitants of the earth and speak to them face-to-
face? Of course, that would have frustrated their ultimate plan to have humans experience
mortality in a way that would teach us a lesson. So what was their intent for the Book of
Mormon? What was this final lesson that needed to be given to the mortal humans whom
they were responsible for teaching?
Most Book of Mormon readers miss the “clues” advanced beings gave. They miss the
fact the book specifically tells the reader that it does not contain “even a hundredth part of
the things which Jesus did truly teach unto the people.” It explains that the things it does
contain are meant
to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then
shall the greater things be made manifest unto them. And if it so be that they
will not believe these things, then shall the greater things be withheld from
them, unto their condemnation.^57
One must comprehend that “these things” consist of the information in the Book of
Mormon that people have been given the opportunity to understand and believe (as has been
explained throughout the abundance of this biography, and which the LDS/Mormons have
consistently looked beyond). This information is vital to understanding what the “work of
the Father” is that commenced with the coming forth of both the unsealed and sealed
record. To properly understand why Christ and true messengers communicate as they do,
one must first realize that everything carried out on this earth by the advanced human
beings, who created it and oversee it, is for the benefit (i.e., experience) of all of us.
We are the newly created advanced human beings who were assigned to this solar
system; and we are now going through an important stage of our human development
called “mortality.”^58 We are here to experience an opposition to our humanity, which
opposition is provided by the nature of our imperfect mortal existence. Otherwise managed
by advanced humans, it was intended that we create a world for ourselves that facilitated
this opposition, and they (advanced beings) provided mortals with the environment and
