Joseph Smith Biography

(Grace) #1
Foreordination (Before 1805)

the early part of his life. With this book, those pages will finally be filled in. As previously
stated, Joseph himself has guided the unveiling of his true identity through this work.
Joseph was never left alone in preparing for and fulfilling his mission. There were
advanced human beings monitoring everything that happened, not only to him, but to the
mortal family responsible for bringing him into the world and providing him with the
experiences necessary to prepare him for his calling.^54 Furthermore, there were four semi-
mortals (known as John the Beloved and the “Three Nephites”) who volunteered to. remain
alive upon the earth and do whatever they could to “bring many souls out of all nations,
kindreds, tongues and people unto” the message.^55 These men played a crucial role in
Joseph’s life as he prepared for and fulfilled his calling.

Freedom for a Democracy

The first thing that needed to occur before Joseph was born into the world was to
establish a place upon the planet where he could fulfill his mission in a relatively free
environment. The newly formed government of the United States would afford the
needed protection under the laws of the land that would allow Joseph to present his
message in the way that the advanced mentors would instruct him. The concept of
separation of religious belief (church) and government (state) would provide legal
protection for what Joseph would be asked to do.
There has never been a government in the history of the human race quite like
that of the United States. In some respects, the government was set up exactly like our
advanced creators expected it to be. They knew that we could never be convinced of the
beauty and perfection of an advanced eternal government that controls our Universe,
unless we first experienced a government based on what we all value more than any
other human right we possess—free agency. There had never been a truer form of
democracy (i.e., rule by those chosen by the voice of the majority) until the
establishment of the United States of America.^56
What humans do with unconditional free will is an important lesson for us to
learn as advanced humans going through an imperfect mortal stage of our development.
Could we be trusted to govern ourselves in a democracy where the majority rules? What
happens if the majority takes advantage of the minority? Is this justice for all? Is this
equality for all? It was for a very wise purpose that advanced beings waited for the
establishment of the United States of America before they instructed one of their true
messengers to test its democratic principles. A big part of Joseph’s mission was to test
these principles and show that a government where “the majority rules” is far from the
best form of human government.^57
No other religious group in the history of the newly formed United States
would suffer more injustice, more scrutiny, and more acts of democratic hypocrisy
than the religion that Joseph was constrained to allow to come forth according to the
desires of the people that embraced it. Mormonism would become the first authentic
American religion; and, ironically, the least supported (at least initially) by its
motherland (the U.S.A.).
