4.Put on your safety glasses. Place the 4”
rectangle wire piece onto a hard, flat surface.
Place the point of the awl on the mark that
you made I” and 2” from the end of the
rectangle wire, and, using a hammer, firmly
strike once on the top of the awl. This will
make pilot holes for drilling holes into the
rectangle wire.

5.Using a^1 ⁄ 16 ” drill bit, drill holes into the
rectangle wire piece with a handheld rotary
tool, flex shaft, or drill press. (Wearing your
safety glasses!)

6.Use the file or fine grit sanding pad to
eliminate any burs or rough edges left from
drilling holes into the rectangle wire piece.

1.Use a ruler to measure and mark one 4”
4 ×1 mm sterling silver rectangle wire.
Use the jeweler’s saw or tin snips to cut the
4 ×1 mm sterling silver wire to 4”.

2.File each end of the 4” rectangle wire piece
to remove any burs or rough edges. If
desired, you can use the file to round the
ends of the rectangle wire pieces. Use a fine
grit sanding pad to go over the area where
you have filed to smooth the edges and
remove any file marks.

3.Use the ruler to measure and place a mark
in the center of the wire I” from one end of
the wire. Use the ruler to measure and place
a mark in the center of the wire 2” from the
same end of the wire. This is where you will
be drilling holes to slide the head pins
through.
