family snapshots during the mid-1980s, producing a ser-
ies of black-and-white and color portraits of families and
individuals. Developed an interest in Renaissance paint-
ing, which resulted in theMuseum Photographs, begin-
ning in 1988. Began association with Galerie Max
Hetzler, Cologne, 1987; Marian Goodman Gallery,
New York, 1990. Appointed professor of photography
at the Staatliche Hochschule fu ̈r Gestaltung, Karlsruhe,
Germany, 1990. Awarded the ‘‘Spectrum’’ International
Prize for Photography, Stiftung Niedersachsen, Ger-
many in 1977. Living in Du ̈sseldorf, Germany.
