I believe that the new methods and approaches of teaching and learning have
a future in Indonesia for the following reasons. First, the rapid development of
information and communication technology provides an avenue for students
to learn many things from various sources. As a result, teachers are no longer
considered the only source of information and knowledge. Second, there is
increasing awareness in Indonesian society of the importance of high quality
education. When people discover that good quality schools are those that
apply new methods of teaching, demand will increase for changes in teaching
methods. Third, the teacher training programmes in various universities are
already training future teachers in the new teaching methods. It is expected
that, over time, these teachers will outnumber those who have not received
training in these methods, and all teachers will then be able to apply the
new methods more easily. In addition, greater awareness about the new
approaches and methods of teaching and learning among teachers, as a
result of further research and publications, will eventually change the culture
of teaching and learning in this country.
