RATIONAL NUMBERS



  1. Rational number
    Any number which can be expressed in the form qp, where p and q are integers
    and q≠ 0 is called as a rational number. The set of rational numbers is denoted by the
    letter Q.


Eg. : 53 , − 85

Note that the set of rational numbers comprises of natural numbers, whole numbers,
fractions and integers.

The idea of rational numbers needs verbal explanation along with necessary Braille
text material.



  1. Irrational number
    Any number which cannot be expressed in the form qp, where p and q are integers
    and q ≠0 is called an irrational number.


Eg. : 2 = 1.414... is an irrational number. Similarly, 3 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 and
10 etc., are also irrational numbers.

The idea of irrational numbers may be explained orally with the assistance of necessary
Braille text material.
