ing grounds. Once prolific, southern right
whales suffered unrestrained slaughter
during the 19th century, which reduced the
whale population from 100,000 to just a
few hundred by 1935. Although an endan-
gered species, they are fighting back and the
population worldwide may now be as high
as 7000.
Key spots for whale watching include Vic-
tor Harbor and Head of Bight beyond Ce-
duna on the far west coast.

Whatever your persuasion or destination,

including day trips to the Adelaide Hills,
Fleurieu Peninsula, Murray River and the
Barossa and Clare Valleys.
