The Rosicrucian Cosmo-Conceptionis a
variation of theosophy, differing principally in
its more extensive reliance upon Christianity
and Christian symbols, which reflects the influ-
ence of Rudolf Steiner. Heindel also placed a
greater emphasis upon astrology. The Rosicru-
cian Fellowship was a major factor in the expan-
sion of astrology in the early part of century.
Until relatively recently, most astrologers, even
those not connected with the fellowship, used
the ephemerides and table of houses published
by the fellowship.

ROYALSTARS
(WATCHERS OF THEHEAVENS)
The ancients referred to the stars through which the Sun passed during the equinoxes
and the solstices as the royal stars. In the third millennium B.C.E., these were Alde-
baran (the Watcher of the East, spring), Regulus (the Watcher of the North, summer),
Antares (the Watcher of the West, fall), and Formalhaut (the Watcher of the South,
winter). Because of the precession of equinoxes, these four stars no longer mark the
beginning of the seasons.
RUDHYAR, DANE
Dane Rudhyar was the leading figure in the movement that reoriented twentieth-cen-
tury astrology from the prediction of events to its present emphasis on the analysis of
personality. Born Daniel Chennevierre on March, 23, 1895, in Paris, to a middle-class
family of Norman and Celtic stock, he spent his first 20 years in Paris. A serious illness
and surgery at age 12 led him to begin developing his mind; he passed his baccalaure-
ate at the Sorbonne at age 16, majoring in philosophy. He began meeting people who
introduced him to the artistic and musical world of Paris, then in a great ferment, and
to the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche, who freed him from what remained of his past
conditioning and introduced him to the concept that all existence is cyclic in charac-
