or directions, the indication is to be seen as in full force from the crossing of any one
minute (1’) point to the arrival at the threshold of the next one minute (1’) point.

Thus, 15° Aries 00’ is read as 15° Aries, but 15° Aries 01’ is read as 16° Aries,
as is 15° Aries 59’. Determining the correct Sabian symbol to use when a planet is
found at the very end or beginning of a sign, especially when dealing with seconds,
can be particularly confusing. If a planet lies between 29°01’ of one sign and 0°01’ of
the next sign, it is read as 30 degrees. Thus, 29° Pisces 01’ is read as 30 Pisces. Follow-
ing the same line of reasoning, 0° Aries 0’59” is also read as 30 Pisces, but 0°01’ Aries
is read as 1 Aries.

SABINE

Sabine, asteroid 665 (the 665th asteroid to be discovered, on July 22, 1908), is
approximately 72 kilometers in diameter and has an orbital period of 5.6 years. It is
named after a group of people to the east of Rome whose women were abducted by the
Romans. They fought the Romans but finally joined with them to become one people.
In a natal chart, Sabine’s location by sign and house may indicate where and how one
is most able to negotiate conflicts. When afflicted by inharmonious aspects, Sabine
may indicate where one is taken advantage of.

SAGITTARIUS

Sagittarius, the ninth sign of the zodiac, is a mutable fire sign. It is a positive, mascu-
line sign, ruled by the planet Jupiter (although some astrologers would say that it is
ruled or coruled by the planetoid Chiron). Its symbol is the centaur (sometimes, the
archer) and its glyph is an arrow, denoting the arrow in the bow that the centaur is
holding. It takes its name from the Latin word for arrow, sagitta.Sagittarius is associat-
ed with the hips, thighs, and liver, and individuals with a Sagittarius sun sign are sus-
ceptible to hepatitis and other liver problems. The key phrase for Sagittarius is “I see.”

Unlike many other members of the zodiac, Sagittarius has a complex mytholo-
gy. Symbolically half human and half animal, the alternative mythical figures for this
sign also tend to place Sagittarius between the poles of animal brutality and high
