Without pressing

too hard, Move

the pastel in a

single stroke

vertically to

create realistic

reflections.

Use the flat side of a deep red

pastel to block in leaves across

the trees. Using the flat side

of mid-brown, block in more

leaves. Indicate leaves coming

in from the right side.

Use the flat side of mid-yellow to

add light-colored leaves to the

right side of the painting.

Using the flat side of the dark

green pastel, create areas

of green between the trees.

Darken the shadows. Then use

the chisel edge to block in dark

shadows between the tree

trunks. Add a light layer of dark

green to create reflections in

the water.

The light source is above the top right corner of the painting.
