PAINTING TECHNIQUES

My primary philosophy for working with pastels is to keep it simple. With that said, there are various

techniques for pastel painting. You can paint almost anything by following these techniques.

HOLDING THE PASTEL

The simplest way to hold a pastel is between the thumb and forefinger. You should be comfortable with

the way the pastel feels in your hand. Take your time to get used to the feel of the pastel.

When painting with

pastel, it often works best

to use an upright surface.
