Rivetsmaybegroupedoneachsideofajointsuchthattheefficiencyofthejointisamaximum.Suppose
thattwoplatesareconnectedasshowninFig.11.13andthatsixrivetsarerequiredoneachside.Ifit
isassumedthateachrivetisequallyloaded,thenthesinglerivetonthelineaawilltakeone-sixthof
thetotalload.Thetworivetsonthelinebbwillthensharetwo-sixthsoftheload,whilethethreerivets
onthelineccwillsharethree-sixthsoftheload.Onthelinebb,theareaofcrosssectionoftheplate
isreducedbytworivetholesandthatonthelineccbythreerivetholessothat,relatively,thejointis
