I was their authority figure, and at any given time there were
usually several boys yelling and swearing at me. To make matters worse,
we lived outside in tents and my hands were numb and my nose dripped
for the entire winter. I wanted to quit almost every day. But, when I
discovered that nine of the ten boys in my group didn’t live with their
parents because their parents were either in jail, dead, or had left them to
their grandparents I vowed that I wasn’t going to be the person to break
their trust and leave again.
So, I fulfilled my two-year commitment and discovered that who
I am is a man who loves to serve. At the same time, something else had
woken up in me. I was no longer willing to spend my waking hours
getting yelled at while I froze my butt off and made less than five dollars
an hour.
I made a pact with Spirit: “I’m happy to serve. But you’ve got to
meet me halfway. I need to be served as well.”
This discovery sparked the third event. I moved to Santa Cruz to
become a life coach and workshop leader. I tried everything I could to
get clients and workshop participants, but even though my rates were
much higher than at the Wilderness Therapy Camp, I couldn’t get enough
people to work with me to pay the bills.
So, I got a j-o-b working at a nonprofit organization, pretending
like I was making a difference. nine months later, I was stuffing cookies
down my throat in the back room of the office, when I realized that not
serving people deeply was killing me. I watched my wife Sharla hire a
coach and triple her practice in three months. So, filled with newfound
inspiration I hired my own coach and went for my dreams again.
Using the system of HeartSelling™ Sharla had downloaded; we
took our company, Rejuvenate Training, from 0 to 6-figures in our first
year. People started wondering how we grew our business so quickly. By
sharing our answers and continually asking: “Spirit, what do you want to
use my life for today?” our business has exploded over the last three
years.
We now teach holistic practitioners, coaches, and entrepreneurs
how to make a six-figure income in their business without sacrificing
their core values. We stay passionate about it, because we believe that
the world will be a better place when the people with big hearts have
bank accounts that match the size of their hearts.
