Many clubs and societies holdregularevents, and this useful plugin makes it easyto add theseto your group’s
WordPresswebsite. Here’s howto use it

Choosecolours that engage
your visitors’ emotions
You don’t have to be a talented
designerto build awebsite but
complementarycolour schemes
certainly helpto make a drab site
moreattractive. Beforeyou roll
out thecolour wheel, take a look
at Eva DesignSystem’s semantic
colour generator (colors.eva
.design). Instead of choosing
colours based solely on their
relationshipto others, this gives
you a
range of
colours
designed
to invoke
emotions
in your
visitors.
Enter the hexadecimalcode of
your site’s maincolour and it
returns suggestionsto useto
encourage success, information,
warning and danger.

Play agame to learn CSS
CSS is usedto make HTML
documents lookattractive but
learning it can be tricky,
particularly the differentways
in which elements on a page can
have CSS assignedto them. CSS
Diner (flukeout.github.io) isa
wonderfully entertaining game
that helpsreinforce how CSS
achieves this.You’ll see a table
with plates offood displayed at
thetop of the page and,at the
bottom, you have to type in the
correct CSScode to isolate the
flashing items.Tips and pre-made
HTMLcode are providedto help,
andyou’ll soon be learning
withoutrealising it.

Q
I love WordPressbut I seemto
have to carry out plugin and
themeupdates every time
I visit mysite. Is there someway to
update themautomatically?
Oliver Phillips, via email
A
The reason why this isn’t built into
WordPress is because updates can
breakyour site andyou don’t want
that happening while you’re not looking.
Consider minimising the update processby
removing all themes andplugins that you
aren’t currently using.
If you still want to
update automatically,
there are afew plugins
availablethat can
managethe process.
Try Companion Auto
Updater ( bit.ly/caup481),
which can be set to update both themes and
plugins. Make sure you check your site
regularly to ensure nothing is broken.
